• Appenzell is one of the smallest cantons of Switzerland, but its small size is compensated by a large heritage, renowned for its unique culture, cuisine and dialect.

Flying in Appenzell is concentrated around Ebenalp, and the adjacent parallel orientated ridges around Kronberg and Hoher Kasten. These sites provide excellent soaring possibilities with NW or SE winds. Close by, there are additional options in the neighbouring canton of St. Gallen, centred around Walenstadt.

Ebenalp, Kronberg and Hoher Kasten all provide a flight of between 600-800m vertical descent, ample for most, but with frequent thermal conditions this could lead to flights of over an hour. Xc options are limited to the surrounding valleys and the plateau, with the site record at just under 70km for an open distance.
